Zipped Cushion Covers

Updated: Apr 29, 2020

How to sew a cushion cover with a zipper.

A quite while ago my mum has purchased a lovely playpen for my baby son (spoiling grand-children is a part of granny's job, off course ;) and at that moment I knew I want to make it more playful and safe. The baby playpen is safe from the beginning of course, but I thought that additional cushions will do well to support his fall onto back. I had some small cushions inserts bought from Ikea (14" x 14") and they were just perfect for this project. I have had also bought some printed fat quarters from Hobby Craft to use for baby projects. I used 4 different fat quarters for 2 small cushions (owl print at the front and leaves print at the back).

Less then few hours of sewing and the job was done!

It's not that difficult to insert a zipper, all you need is a bit of bravery and practice!

So... let's do this!

You gonna need some fabrics:

- 2 fat quarters for 1 cushion cover

- 1 zipper , long or as nearly as long as the side edge of your cushion

I have used a navy zipper for my navy/yellow cushion and beige zipper for blue/green cushion. Both zippers were bought by meters, as I find it quite useful for this kind of projects. The zipper by meter aloud me to cut my desire length and it works out much cheaper than ordinary zippers.

and tools of course:

- a sewing machine

- an overlocker (if you have one)

- an iron and ironing board

- scissors

- pins

How did go for you?
